______________________________________________________________________________________ Packshot began 21 years ago after a somewhat protracted Soho lunch involving a group of top London advertising photographers. They decided to form a partnership studio for creative photographers to sub-contract their basic pack and product photography. At that time pack shot and basic product photography was performed by labs, repro houses, photographer's assistants and low-end photographers, and quality suffered. During the lunch one of the group told a story that a well known fashion photographer had once said to an Art Editor on a fashion shoot after being asked to do a shot of a fabric sample - "I'm not a 'Pack shot' Photographer" and so the name The Packshot Company was born and we became known far and wide as simply - Packshot. Packshot allowed its partner photographers to take on creative projects and also benefit from the often abundant amounts of product photography by sub contracting to packshot and deliver to their clients first class product photography along with their creative work. After several years (and some covert detective work by art buyers!) the secret was out and Packshot's photographers began to take on projects directly from advertising agencies and clients alike. As we grew to become one of London's most successful photographic studios, we kept the basic idea - of offering experienced, full time photographers and the best equipment, in proper full size all purpose studios. The recessions of the late eighties and 90's even helped us - as clients began to realise they could get creative work, as well as packshots, at extremely reasonable rates through Packshot. During the 90's Packshot also gained a reputation for its studio parties at its Paddington and kings cross sites. Such was the reputation that Many advertising agencies, The Association of Photographers, Brad Pitt and William Orbit chose to throw their own parties there - and we've still got the legendary pool table! Digital and Dot.com Packshot saw the potential of digital from the very start. With the combined resources of 4 full time photographer teams, we were able to make a heavy investment in the emerging technology and became London's first fully networked fully digital studio. The dot.com era of the late 90's saw Packshot Company become the largest single provider of photographic content to the exploding e-tail market, operating studios at sites in Kings Cross, Paddington and Surrey. For logistical reasons it was decided to consolidate all the studios under one roof at our present studio complex in Camden Town The UK's one and only Packshot Company has become the most important photographic studio in UK product photography and is widely credited with establishing Digital Product Photography standards - Indeed clients such as Homebase and Bacardi Martini come to Packshot to train their in house photographers. Packshot.com has indeed inspired a whole "Packshot" and product shot industry sector. Packshot is unconnected with any other "Packshot" style Companies and for that reason is known as The "Original" Packshot Company or since the digital era-Packshot.com and remains as the very last of the non hire big central London all purpose photographic Studios. ___________________________________________________________________________ |
